📸 The Skidmores Story – Part Seven: The First Day At School.
On 16th June 1930, Bill and Bert turned four.
That same morning, they started school.
Their names were written carefully into the Worle Infant School register:
1001 – Albert Stanley Skidmore
1002 – William Edward Skidmore
School in the 1930s was a different world. Wooden desks with ink wells. Lessons learned aloud. Hymns echoing across the room. Brown wall tiles lining the main hall (still there today) quietly holding their history.
Caps straight. Jackets buttoned.
Two small boys, born above the shop at Number One, stepping into classroom life.
The walk to school was short. The moment was not.
From that day on, the School, the Village Club opposite and the shop below their bedroom window formed the backdrop to a childhood many in Worle would later remember.
